Aeration and Power Raking
What is aeration and dethatching?
Aeration the process of allowing air and water to pass into the soil and roots of your lawn or turf. An aerator is machine that puts tines into the ground and removes plugs from the soil. In Idaho we have heavy clay soils which are easily compacted, hindering root growth and water absorption.
Dethatching is the process of removing organic debris (thatch) from your lawn. We use a machine, known as power rake, that passes over your grass with vertical blade tines which pulls up the organic debris that has built up on the surface of your lawn.
Why should you aerate?
Aeration is important for your grass to be as healthy as possible and look its best. Aeration should be done at least annually but for best results should be done once in the spring and again in the fall. Fall is the perfect time to add over-seeding with your aeration. Seed will germinate more effectively when the temperatures are cooler and the days are shorter. Benefits include:
